My first review is going to be Pyschopomp by Japanese Breakfast, a band stemmed from the lead singer, Michelle Zauner. for the past month, I've dived into the discography of Zauner's work, starting from this particular album, marking the debut studio album for the band. A bit of background for this album, Michelle wrote this album based upon the death of her mother which you can read up on her debut novel, Crying in H Mart. When I found this album, I was going through a similar lost as well, and upon relisten, the songs feel a lot different that from the intial listen. The opening track, "In Heaven", opens up a heavenly piano run transition into a heavy guitar. The lyrics describe the feeling that is left by a loved one lost in the initial lyrics where Michelle describes her dog sniffing at her mother's room, which leads to Michelle to contemplate whether or not her mother is visiting her like an angel or whether or not she believed in heaven. There is also a sort of anger and sadness that is delivered in different portions of the song, more specifically when describing the space left by her mother's passing. But one
